Dr. Shalini Govil

Associate Professor Shalini Govilobtained the MBBS degree in 1985 and a Diploma in Medical Radiodiagnosis (DMRD) in 1992 from Christian Medical College Vellore and became a Diplomate of the National Board of Examinations (DNB) in 1995.  In 1997, she was awarded the prestigious PN Berry Scholarship for study in the UK and, in 1999, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR). After 2 years of training (1997-1999) in Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Radiology at St. Mary’s Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital, University College London and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, she focused on Abdominal Imaging in her clinical work. She is an Associate Professor of Radiology and was on the Radiology Faculty at Christian Medical College Vellore from 1994 to 2005. Since 2008, she has been Chief of Radiology and Head of Radiology Quality Assurance at Columbia Asia Hospital, Bangalore.  In January 2012, Dr. Govil was appointed as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Radiology at Christian Medical College Vellore.

While a student at Christian Medical College Vellore, Dr. Govil was awarded the First Rank in Final MBBS, the Somerwell Prize in Clinical Surgery, the John S. Carman Medal in Surgery, the Mary Thomas Memorial Prize in Surgery, the N.D. Jeyasekharan Prize for the Best Outgoing Clinical Student , the University of Madras Balfour Memorial Gold Medal in Medicine, the University of Madras Dr. Nair Memorial Gold Medal in Surgery and the Best Outgoing Radiology Postgraduate.

Dr. Govil has a keen interest in clinical research and has been awarded two Internal Fluid Research Grants at CMC Vellore entitled “Hydrocolonic Sonography in the Detection of Large Bowel Disease” (1990) and “The Role of Non-breath-hold Magnetic Resonance Cholangiography in the Evaluation of Biliary Strictures” (1996). She has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed a chapter in a textbook of Liver Imaging.  At Columbia Asia Hospital, she is the chair of the DNB Program with an intake of two DNB residents a year. She is the Indian organizer of the Bangalore Columbia Asia FRCR Course, a 2-day mock exam conducted by UK Royal College examiners.  Twice a year, she prepares Radiology Residents for MD and DMRD Final Exams at Christian Medical College Vellore.

Currently based in Columbia Asia Referral Hospital, Bangalore, Dr. Govil is the Chief of Radiology and Head of Radiology Quality Assurance for a team of 40 Radiologists in 9 Columbia Asia Hospitals in India. As Lead Abdominal Radiologist, she is consulted on complex gastrointestinal and genitourinary cases and delivers lectures related to her subspecialty to Radiology Residents and Staff.
