Dr. Sunil Kumar S. is currently the Consultant in Interventional Cardiology at Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal and Yeshwanthapur Units, Bangalore, since January 2016. He completed his basic graduation, in 2004, from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore, Karnataka, one of the premier medical institutions in India. Following this, he went on to do his postgraduation (MD) in Internal Medicine, which he completed, in 2008, from another equally esteemed medical institution, Madras Medical College, Chennai. He worked as a Hospitalist in Deepashri Hospital, Bangalore, for a period of 2 years. At about the same time, he was also a Clinical Observer, Division of Infectious Diseases, Wayne State University, MI, United States. He then pursued his career interest in Cardiology by obtaining the doctorate DM (Cardiology), from the well-known cardiology institute, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bangalore, in 2013. After completing his DM Cardiology, he was appointed as an Associate Consultant Cardiologist, Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore, and later as a Consultant in Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. Having relocated to the US, Dr. Sunil Kumar S. received his Fellowship in the year 2015, in Interventional Cardiology, from The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY, one of the top 10 cardiac institutes in the United States. Dr. Sunil Kumar S. has innumerable national and international publications to his credit, and his research experience is vast. Notable among his research work are: "Incidence, predictors, clinical profile, management, and outcome of patients with atherosclerotic isolated left main coronary artery ostial disease"; "Effect of thrombolytic therapy on the patterns of post myocardial infarction ventricular septal rupture"; "Educational status in high-risk patients With HIV seropositivity"; "Systemic inflammation and risk of cadiovascular diseases in patients with COPD"; "Ventilatory support in IMCU of a government hospital in India : An etiological and prognostic profile"; "Compliance pattern among AIDS patients on antiretroviral therapy"; and "Prevalence of vascular diseases in elderly with metabolic syndrome with or without diabetes." Among his many publications, the notable ones are: A rare case of percutaneous coronary intervention in achondroplasia; adenocarcinoma--a rare intruder into the superior vena cava and the right atrium; a rare case of left ventricular outflow tract mass on echocardiography; isolated major aortopulmonary collateral artery in an infant presenting with recurrent lower respiratory tract infection; bag of worms in coronary angiogram: an interesting case of right coronary artery collateral circulation; Lancisi sign; a false-positive ST-segment elevation during exercise stress test; and flail tricuspid valve secondary to blunt chest trauma. On his voluntary work, Dr. Sunil Kumar S. has been an active volunteer in many health-related projects both as a medical student and as an MBBS graduate. Some of the projects he was involved in include: "Tsunami Relief Work" in Nagapattinam; "Community Health Camp" organized by the government of India; "Certification Camp for Physically Handicapped"; "World Heart Day" ; "MEDEX Health Exhibition"; Breastfeeding Camp"; and "Pulse Polio Immunization Program. A recipient of many medical school awards, Dr. Sunil Kumar S. was placed first in the free paper presentation at Cardiology Society of India-Karnataka Chapter Conference (2012), placed second in the state level Nephrology Quiz held at KGH Hospital, Coimbatore (2006), placed third in the state level Rheumatology Medal Exam held at Madras Medical College (2007). His papers on ventilatory care at an international conference in Emergency Medicine, San Francisco, and on HIV at AIDS Impact Conference Marseille, France have won him accolades. He won scholarships to attend IAS international conference held at Sydney (2007) and to attend and present at "The International Conference on Actions to Strengthen Linkages between Sexual & Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS", held at Mumbai (2007).
